A rare free Sunday where i am home, and have nothing planned. Time for some light research and inspiration for something that has been at the back of my mind - the cause of empowering and employing persons with disabilities.
1. Brilliant ideas often sound ridiculous.
Notice the ripple effect - mothers saved means maternal presence for their kids. Intact families and supported development for the children play a huge role in the norming of the nation's future generation.
2. Dignity cannot wait for better times
With a job, a sense of control or contribution to his family or society, the Father felt ashamed of himself, and for his son. Helping one gain dignity goes beyond the monetary and emotional support we can provide. Many times, it takes practical realistic actions of helping them find their standing in the economy and society.
How may we support the growing population of Persons with disabilities?
How may we go beyond knowing and accepting them, to really including them?
How may they contribute effectively to the economy?
How may we empower them to do so?
How may we learn to view the possibilities in them?
How may we move the "cannot" into "can"?
